MiSight Contact Lenses for Myopia Management

Want to learn more about myopia management?  Are you myopic (nearsighted)?  Did you know that research shows that if both parents are myopic, there is a 1 in 2 chance of the child being myopic.  If one parent is myopic, there is a 1 in 3 chance of the child being myopic.  If neither parent is myopic, there is still a 1 in 4 chance that the child will be myopic.  This is astounding!

Myopia is now recognized as a global epidemic?  By 2050, over 50% of the global population is predicted to be myopic.  Not only are we seeing an increased INCIDENCE of myopia, but an increase in the SEVERITY.  Myopia is not only an inconvenience, it comes with increased risks of glaucoma, retinal detachment, cataracts and maculopathy.

Because of this data, a lot of research is being conducted on ways we can slow the progression of myopia. We are very excited to announce that MiSight daily contact lenses by Cooper Vision are now available in our office.  They are the first and only FDA approved contact lenses for myopia control.

Who is a good candidate for these contact lenses?  The FDA has approved the initiation of these lenses for children between the ages of 8-12 who are nearsighted.  If your child is myopic, let’s discuss if MiSight contact lenses may be a good option for him/her.
